Featured DSP: Leah Greene

1. For how long have you been a DSP?

10 years.

2. When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?

English teacher.

3. If they made a movie about your life, what would it be called?

Survivor.

4. Why did you become a DSP?

Stitching up my little brother when I was 13. He is a cutter. This is how he deals with the abuse he suffered as a child from my parents. He is addicted to drugs and alcohol and has a lot of psychological issues because of his childhood.

5. Who is your hero in real life?

My boss, Tom DuBois. He has made me realize so much about myself and has been supportive in decisions I help the individual we serve with. I have grown so much since I started working with him and couldn’t have done it with out him. He makes this job fun!

6. What is your favorite part about being a DSP?

Smiles, smiles and more smiles! When an individual laughs and smiles and I know they are happy completely, [that] makes my day!

7. If you had one wish, what would it be?

To have an endless supply of money so I could pay DSPs more and give our individuals the best of the best.

8. What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Winning the DSP award for the state of Wisconsin!

9. If you were a superhero, what would be your superpower?

Strength, so when others can’t walk or feel like they can go on, I will be able to carry them.

10. What is one thing you wish people understood about you and your work?

[The people I work with] aren’t stupid or diseased, and I am not babysitting. She is a happy, beautiful, strong, warm-hearted 31-year-old woman who happens to have a mental illness. Stop being afraid, people!
