Featured DSP: Sara Richardson, Exceptional Persons, Inc.

1. For how long have you been a DSP?

2 months.

2. When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A doctor.

3. If they made a movie about your life, what would it be called?

Finding Sara.

4. Why did you become a DSP?

I am currently working on my master’s degree in psychology, but until I took this job as a DSP, I had no relevant job experience. The job I’m currently at provides slightly better wages than my old job, and I had heard from multiple people in the community that this job worked with awesome staff and awesome people served.

5. Who is your hero in real life?

Hillary Clinton. She’s overcome a lot to reach where she’s at. While I don’t always agree with her viewpoints, I admire her determination and passion for what she does.

6. What is your favorite part about being a DSP?

I love knowing that I am making a positive difference in the lives of the people that I serve. I love seeing a smile on their faces when I come to work, because I know that I am appreciated and needed.

7. If you had one wish, what would it be?

To make a positive impact in as many people's lives as possible.

8. What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Graduating Cum Laud with my B.A. in Psychology with Psychology Department Honors. I worked hard for those honors.

9. If you were a superhero, what would be your superpower?

The ability to selectively read people's thoughts.

10. What is one thing you wish people understood about you and your work?

How vital it is for the betterment of the community as a whole.  Without DSP's we're back to the institutions and dehumanizing practices that only degrade the integrity of who we are as people.
